Excise guard suspended

KATTAPPANA: An excise guard has been suspended after an inquiry conducted into a complaint that he had received money from the relative of an accused in connection with the seizure of 1.45 kg of ganja at Cheruthoni on Saturday last. The Deputy Commissioner (Excise) suspended EE Surendran, a guard at the Top Station excise checkpost in Munnar, on the basis of the complaint that he had assured the relative of the accused that, if he was paid money, he would enter a “lower quantity” of ganja than actually seized in the case register so that the accused would get bail from the court. The relative made the complaint before the Excise Deputy Commissioner after the accused failed to get bail as assured by the excise guard.
