High Court verdict on bar licence unacceptable: V.M. Sudheeran

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Congress leader V.M. Sudheeran on Friday said the Kerala High Court annulment of UDF Government’s amendment to the liquor Act (Kerala Abkari Act Amendment), that disallowed allotment of bar licences to three-star hotels, is unacceptable.

Sudheeran was talking to reporters at Kozhikode.

He said he respects court and the judicial system. But the intervention of judiciary in a democratic system is unacceptable. The annulment by the court strengthens liquor lobbies at a time when the state government tries to reduce the people’s consumption of liquor, he added.

He said he fears that people may lose their faith in judiciary if such moves continue. Investigation should be ordered into the frequent failures of government in Abkari cases, he said.
