Air ambulance in two weeks

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala told the assembly that the service of air ambulance will be made available within two weeks for making arrangements for surgeries on organ transplantation.

Private companies have come forward to implement it jointly with private hospitals. They have assured to provide its service free for 48 hours. Chennithala while replying to the submission of Shafi Parambil said that he and health minister are holding talks on it.

Chandy said in between the talks on the service of air ambulance theharvested heart of a brain-dead person was airlifted from a hospital in Thiruvananthapuram to another hospital in Kochi for transplant. It was a collective victory, he said.

The heart of Neelakantan Sharma declared brain-dead at Sri Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology was recently transplanted to Mathews. Steps will be taken to give maximum encouragement for donation or organs, he said.
