Clash breaks out in SFI marches

KANNUR: A clash broke out in the marches staged in various centers under the leadership of SFI in protest against the delay in printing of text books.

The marches staged in Kannur, Thodupuzha, Malappuram and Kottayam turned violent. The police resorted to lathicharge, burst tear gas shells and grenades when the activists tried to topple the barricades in the march to Kannur collectorate. Many activists and policemen sustained injuries in stone pelting.

In the clash which lasted for nearly an hour, eight SFI activists and five policemen were injured. Four sustained injuries in the clash that broke out in Thodupuzha.
