State takes steps for market intervention during Onam

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government has initiated steps to ensure market intervention to control the prices of essential commodities during Onam festival season in the state.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, who convened a meeting in this regard in his chamber in the assembly, directed to supply essential commodities in a satisfactory manner through Consumer Fed, Supply Co, ration shops and other government agencies during the festival season.

"Effective market intervention is needed to control price rise during the Onam season. Onam fairs should be conducted so that essential items can be provided to the consumers." The next cabinet meeting would take a decision on providing free kits to school students coming under the BPL category during the festival season.
