KOCHI: Health Minister K K Shailaja said four persons who were under observation at the isolation ward with symptoms of fever have been discharged. Presently seven are under observation at the Kalamassery Medical College with symptoms of the disease. Though there is no need to worry, the government will go forward with preventive measures, she added.
The minister said the condition of the youth undergoing treatment confirmed with Nipah virus has improved. The minister said she spoke to the youth’s mother. The tests conducted at Kalamassery Medical College by the expert panel from virology lab in Pune found no presence of the virus in the blood samples of the youth and in the fluid of his throat. However, the presence of the virus was found in his urine.
Though the virus has affected his brain slightly, the doctors have informed that it could be solved. In order to confirm the present situation of his health condition, the blood samples will be sent to the lab in Pune. Out of the 327 under observation, 52 are in the high risk section.
Meantime, bats will be caught from 12 places in Ernakulam and Thodupuzha as part of finding the source of the virus. Bats will be caught from eight places in North Paravoor, where the youth resides. The test will be conducted by a three-member team from the lab in Pune.
The excreta and urine of the bat have been collected from many places. If the presence of virus is there, it will show in the urine. A master plan has been made to catch and observe bats. Most probably information on the source will be obtained in ten days.
