Academic councils to be revived

In a bid to ensure regular exchange of ideas among the teaching community, the Education Department has given orders to the secretaries of all the school academic councils in the district to revive their operations and conduct regular meetings.

“The various academic councils was to be a meeting point for teachers from different schools in the district dealing with a particular subject. At the council meetings the teachers would be able to exchange ideas, teaching methodology and also discuss issues on getting to the students. But though there are a number of these councils each with a secretary and other nominated members in the district, most of them are not functioning. Meetings are held very rarely, if not at all. It is in this context that we have given orders to the councils to conduct regular meetings if not once in a month, at least once in a quarter,” said Deputy Director of  Education, Ernakulam, M D Murali.

The onus of calling in the meetings falls on the secretaries of the academic councils concerned.  The various academic councils include the District Science Council, the District Social Science Council, the District Mathematics Council and the District Sanskrit Council among others.
