THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The water authority is planning to submit a proposal to double the water tariff in the state. Financial crisis is the reason cited for the proposal.
The proposal has directed to charge Rs 8 per kiloliter of water from Rs 4 paid by domestic consumers. The proposal will be approved at the next board meeting and then submitted to the government. The tariff was earlier hiked in 2008. Those consuming five kilolitres of water will have to pay excess Rs 40 and for a kiloliter will have to pay additional Rs 10.
Meantime, Irrigation Minister P J Joseph said there is no move to hike the tariff.
