Four held for IPL spot fixing, betting
KOZHIKODE: Four persons were arrested for betting and spot fixing in connection with the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) and seized Rs 5.02 lakh from their possession in the district.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (North) K Ashraf told reporters IELTS student Mohammed Rasheed and three of his accomplices -- Ishbul Rehman, Shamshu and Harshad -- were arrested from a rented room at Kottaram Road last night while betting was on.
Giving details of their modus operandi, he today said they offered Rs 2,000 to bidders, predicting boundaries and 3,000 for sixers, who called on their mobile phone watching the game on television.
The bidders had to pay the equal amount to the operators if their prediction failed, he added.
They were later released on bail, police said.
