Attack on auto commuters: Mayor calls meeting

In the light of the growing number of attacks on the commuters in the city by autorickshaw drivers, the Mayor has called for a meeting with the various authorities concerned.

The main agenda of the meeting will be to regulate the number of autorickshaws in the city and put a restriction on the autos that are coming into the city from outside, which are allegedly responsible for the attacks.

“A study has been conducted to determine the total number of autorickshaws that are required in the city,” said Kochi Mayor Tony Chammany.

He further added that the discussions regarding the total number of autos that are needed in the city will be done on the basis of this study.

“The number of stands needed and the placement of these stands. We are looking at preventing autorickshaws without city permits from getting into the city,” he said.

The meeting is to be attended by the City Police Commissioner, RTO, PWD officials and autorickshaw trade unions.
