Charge sheet in TP murder case soon

KOZHIKODE: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the high profile murder RMP leader T P Chanrasekharan on May 4 was in the process of preparing the charge sheet in the case. Sources Saturday said the top officers of the team held a meeting at its camp office in Mahe, part of the Union Territory of Pondicherry yesterday, to discuss the charge sheet in connection with the murder case.

The meet was attended by, among others, Additional Inspector General of Police Anoop Kuruvila John, Deputy Superintendents of Police (DYSPs) Jossy Cherian, A P Shoukat Ali and Circle Inspector C V Benny. As per law the charge sheet was required to be submitted within 90 days after the crime, failing which those accused would be released on bail.

Meanwhile, Director General of Police Jacob Punnose said the team was determined to nab those who plotted to murder the rebel CPI (M) leader. Ending speculation that the probe team was about to close the case, Punnose said in Kochi that the investigation would continue till the arrest of the person on whose direction the murder was executed.

In a related development, The SIT today recorded statement of three Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) activists, who were allegedly threatened by the suspected assassins, led by N K Sunil Kumar alias Kodi Suni. In a complaint to the police the RSS men -- Ramesh, Santosh and Rajiv had said they were waylaid and threatened by the gang at Chokli in Kannur hours before the crime. As many as 70 persons were already arrested in connection with the case.
