Fisherwoman “owns” 25 SIM cards

PANANGAD: A private mobile company distributed about 25 SIM cards in the name of a fisher woman at Panangad. She became aware of this only when the telecom enforcement demanded an explanation from her for keeping 25 SIM cards. Subsequently, the woman, who is a widow, lodged a complaint at Panangad police station for tagging her name without her knowledge.

The card actually being used by her is another company’s. Besides, she explained to the police that she does not know how to operate a mobile phone fully. She often seeks her daughter’s help.

The SIM cards were distributed using the address proof of this woman and a photograph of another. Of the 25 card, 24 do not work. The card in working condition is possessed by a woman in Kollam.

The Panangad police have reported the case to the district cyber cell for further investigation.
