Former DMK MLA held for rape and murder of Keralite girl

PERAMBALUR: Police arrested former DMK M L A of Perambalur and two others and were looking for three more, including a DMk functionary, in connection with the murder of a young maid servant in the former MLA's house, here last night.

Police said, Rajkumar brought the girl Sathya (15), hailing from Peermedu in Kerala a few months back. The maid was admitted to Government headquarters hospital here on June 28 and her parents at Peermedu were informed. The parents came down and shifted their daughter to a private hospital at Tiruchirapalli. They again shifted her to Government Medical College hospital at Theni on July 4. But the girl died on July 6.

The Perambalur police however did not pursue the case, registering that Sathya had committed suicide. After post-mortem, they handed over the body to her parents. However, when the parents brought the body of their daughter to Peermedu, they noticed multiple bleeding injuries on it. They then suspected that their daughter might have been murdered and filed a fresh complaint at Peermedu police station. A fresh post-mortem performed at the Government Medical College hospital in Kottayam in Kerala revealed the girl could have been raped and died due to suffocation.

Following the intervention of the Kerala State Government, the Tamil Nadu police headquarters directed the Perambalur District Superintendent of police to reinvestigate the case. The local police registered a case against six persons, including Rajkumar.

While Rajkuar surrendered before the Village Administrative officer here last night, police arrested two of his associates Anbarasan and Mahendran. The three were remanded to judicial custody. Police are now looking for Panneerselvam, Babu and Jaisankar, District Representative of the DMK, who were absconding.
