Kerala govt all out to clean up hotels


THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Following complaints of food poisoning and non-availability of quality food in hotels, Kerala Health department is conducting raids in hotels and food outlets, Health Minister V S Sivakumar said on Saturday.


The minister said considering the gravity of the situation after complaints from several persons, the Food Safety Commissioner had been directed to conduct inspections in hotels.


Raids had been carried out in 511 hotels throughout the state and 14 of them had been asked to down shutters.


A meeting convened by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had decided to appoint deputy collectors as adjudicating officers in all districts to initiate action against persons found guilty of violating the provisions of the Food Safety Standard Act.
