Man accidentally shot at Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station


THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An officer working at Kerala University was accidentally shot by an RPF (Railway Protection Force) head constable while he was loading his gun at Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station on Friday.


The seriously injured person is identified as Manaf (46) hailing from Nanthencode. He has been working as section officer in Kerala University.


Manaf received bullet injuries on his stomach. He went to the railway station along with his wife Naseema to reserve ticket. He was shot at accidently from inside the RPF Guard Room.


He was taken to a private hospital and was subjected to a surgery.


The head constable was identified as Ishakkiyappan, hailing from Thirunnelveli in Tamil Nadu. He has been suspended from service.


RPF Commissioner Joy told media persons that Ishakkiyappan was loading his gun with bullets when his gun accidently spat at Manaf. A large group of people gathered at the site.


The gun has been taken into the RPF custody. The police and the RPF have started a probe into the incident.
