Smart City phase-I work to begin soon

The first phase of construction of the  Smart City project will begin within 45 days, said Baju George, Smart City MD.

He was speaking to the reporters on the sidelines of a function organised by the Kerala Chamber of Commerce and Industry here on Friday.

“The IT complex of the Smart City project will be spread across 30 lakh square feet. The construction of 3.5 lakh square feet would be completed in the first phase. We are confident of completing this work within 18 to 24 months,” Baju said.

When asked the standoff between the Smart City authorities and the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) over the erection of towers near the Smart City project area, the MD said that the issue could be solved through talks.

“There was a difference of opinion with the Gas Authority of India (GAIL) in connection with laying the gas pipeline and it was solved through discussions,” Baju said. KSEB had to suspend the erection of the towers for the Pallikkara-Brahmapuram 220 KV power evacuation line following the objection of the Smart City officials.

The towers were to be erected on the land that was handed over by the government for the Smart Cityproject.
