UDF scores in by-polls

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Ruling UDF has won five out of the six local self-government institution wards where by-elections were held. Among the winners, three belong to the Congress and two to the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML). E A Backer of the Congress won the Kolalambil ward of the Ponnani block panchayat in Malappuram by a margin of 71 votes. One of the significant outcomes in the grama panchayat ward by-elections was that in the Charuvilakom ward of Kollayil panchayat in Thiruvananthapuram where BJP candidate Sasikala wrested the seat from the CPI (M) by a margin of 117 votes.
