Elephant tusk case: ‘SC chief Justice' daughter appeared for Mohanlal’

KOCHI: In elephant tusk case against Mohanlal, it was Supreme Court Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi’s daughter Rashmi Gogoi who had appeared for actor Mohanlal in the high court, according to reports.
In 2012, the Income Tax department found four elephant tusks in Mohanlal’s house. In the case, names of persons including former Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan appeared in the list of accused.
Moovattuppuzha Vigilance court had ordered a quick probe against Mohanlal and Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, pointing out the breach of Prevention of Corruption act. But Mohanlal moved the high court and was able to cancel the order of the Vigilance court. It was Rashmi Gogoi who had argued for Mohanlal.
The IT department raided the Thevara house of Mohanlal in June, 2012. In the raid, four tusks were seized. The actor’s explanation was he had bought the tusks for Rs 65,000 from one K Krishna Kumar. But the investigation officers found out that as Mohanlal didn’t have the licence to keep elephant tusks, he used the licence of another two persons to keep tusks in his possession.
Though Kodanadu Forest officials had first filed a case against Mohanlal, due to the alleged interference of Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, the case was cancelled and the rule was amended to allow Mohanlal to keep the tusks.
Malayattoor DFO in its report had said that what were found in Mohanlal’s house were original elephant tusks.
