KOCHI: A court on Wednesday remanded a youth and his friend, who were accused of sexually abusing a minor girl after giving her ganja beedis. A police team led by Thripunnithura CI P Rajkumar had arrested them.
The accused are Thrippunithura Chathari resident and Arookutty native Sharuk Khan (19) and his friend Vypin Mandapam resident Jibin (22).
The 15-year-old girl had gone missing two days ago and the parents had complained to the police in this regard.
The police came to understand that the girl had gone along with Sharuk Khan, who is a petrol pump employee in Kakkanad.
The girl had forgotten his mobile phone in the auto in which they had travelled. The auto-driver, who saw the phone next morning, handed it over to the police station.
This phone gave police an important lead in the case. According to the police, the three roamed around Ernakulam and finally settled down at Marine Drive walkway in the City. There they made the girl smoke ganja beedi.
In her semi-conscious state, they tried to abuse her.
Police said Jibin was an accused in a number of petty crimes.
