THIRUVANNATHAPURAM: More details of the self-immolation of a woman and her daughter in Neyyattinkara have emerged.
The latest reports coming out say that a black magician had a role in the suicide. But a year ago, an incident at Shashthamangalam Panicker’s lane that led to the suicide of a three-member family bears close resemblance with the above incident.
That mass suicide that shocked the city happened in February, 2018. In that case, the police had taken into custody a famous astrologer of Kanyakumari.
On that day, Sukumaran Nair (65), wife Anandavalli (55) and son Sanathanan (50) were seen hanging dead inside their house.
Police had found out that the family used to do puja and black magic even during midnight hours. The locals told the police that every day at 12 am the family performed puja or prayers or black magic. They remained cut off from the outside world.
The family members committed suicide after scribbling a letter to the police station; the letter had information on how to reach their home.
In the suicide note, there was reference to the astrologer. In the note, it was said that they had no other relatives and all their property should be given to the black magician.
The astrologer or black magician has predicted that Sanathan would become a famous Swami.
The locals said that even if people went to invite the family for some wedding, Sukumaran Nair and others there would block the people at the gate and send them back, saying they were not interested. Their house was a dilapidated one.
In the Neyyattinkara suicide case also, the insides of the house other than the puja rooms and altars were not neatly maintained.
