ALATHUR: When the congress party announced the name of Ramya Haridas as the UDF candidate in Alathur, the party never expected that she would win with such a huge majority. She reached as an unexpected candidate in the CPM bastion where they won since the constituency was formed. She was attacked via social media. She won people’s heart the day she started electioneering.
It was LDF convener A Vijayaraghavan who first turned against Ramya during an election campaign. His remarks hurt me and never expected that from a person who speaks about renaissance, she said. She had lodged a complaint against him to the election commission and police.
P K Biju of the LDF won by 20,960 votes from Alathur since the constituency was formed in 2009. In 2014, he got a lead of 37,312 votes. However Ramya obtained a good lead from Alathur. She got a majority of 1,58,474 votes. She made history by wresting the constituency from P K Biju.
