Youth’s body found on railway track at Paravur: New twist to the case

KOLLAM: There is a shocking twist to the case related to the murder of a youth called Asokan (35), whose body was found on a railway track in Kollam. In the police investigation, it was found that it was a ‘murder-for-liquor’ crime.
Police have arrested Asokan’s friend and neighbour Manikantan (27) in this connection. He is a native of Varambithuvila while Asokan was a native of Paravur Varambithuvila.
The police version is: Asokan’s body was found a month ago near Paravur overbridge. The investigation was done after Asokan’s mother lodged a complaint, alleging it to be a case of unnatural death.
The incident took place on April 17. On that day Asokan, Manikantan and their common friend enjoyed a boozing session. In between, Manikantan and the friend went to buy some ‘touchings’ (snacks, pickles). When they returned, Asokan was not to be seen.
While the friend went back to his home, Manikantan went in search of Asokan. Manikantan saw Asokan near Paravur over bridge. In the tussle that followed, Manikantan pushed Asokan, who fell on the track and was crushed to death by a train that passed through the track at that moment.
