THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The decision to give priority list to the development of national highway in Kerala has not been executed. Kerala is still in the second priority list. Following that, it was asserted that the then union minister Alphons Kannamthanam intervened and included Kerala in the first priority list. It was also claimed that steps were taken to include Kerala in the top priority list after consulting with the centre.
However, the order released has made it clear that the decision has not been progressed. The order released on May 15 by the centre has stated not to distribute the compensation.
Kannamthanam had sent a letter to Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari requesting to consider Kerala in the top priority list. The letter demanded to consider Kerala in the top priority list for the development of the national highway from Kasargod to Parassala.
There were reports of Gadkari cancelling the order deprioritising national highway development in Kerala. He maintained that there is no discrimination towards Kerala. The main issue faced by Kerala on the development is land acquisition. Gadkari had promised to bring clarity on it.
