Will introspect on Sabarimala issue and other reasons for setback in election: Sitaram Yechury

NEW DELHI: At the end of the two-day Polit Bureau (PB) meeting of the CPI(M), general secretary Sitaram Yechury said that the party will introspect on reasons for the severe setback in the recent Lok Sabha election, particularly in their strongholds.

“The BJP could successfully shift the popular narrative away from the multitude of livelihood issues that the last five years of the NDA government had imposed,” Yechury said. He further said that following the declaration of results, minorities faced assaults at several states.

“I’m taking up the responsibility of the defeat as the party general secretary. Party as a whole is responsible for this. The party will introspect whether Sabarimala was a decisive factor for the setback. The central panel will discuss the assumptions of PB and reports from states. Going forward, necessary changes will be made based on that,” Yechury added.
