Setback in poll unexpected, says Kodiyeri

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The electoral defeat in Kerala was unexpected, said CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. The BJP's victory at the national level hints that the country is all set to face a great tragedy, he said while talking to the media soon after the poll results came.

Kodiyeri said, “If any mistakes have happened from our side, we are ready to take necessary steps to correct it. This defeat is temporary. Other things will be forgotten when a wave comes. The campaign of the LDF was to end the BJP rule and this favoured the Congress in Kerala. The party state committee will soon evaluate the basic reasons of this defeat.”

Though the congress suffered severe setback in other states of the country, getting 19 seats in Kerala is a relief for them. KPCC chief Mullappally Ramachandran had mentioned that they will win all the 20 seats but lost Alappuzha. Though they made gains in CPM’s strong fortresses in Alappuzha, the LDF’s leap in opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala’s constituency is a setback for them.
