Wednesday, October 12, 2011: Kerala is all set to have a ship repair
yard either in Vizhinjam in the state capital or at Poovar.
A high level meeting presided by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and
attended by Kerala Ports Minister K Babu and K Subrahmaniam - CMD of Cochin Shipyard Limited
has decided to find a suitable location for the ambitious project. The
CSL MD will submit a site feasibility report within two months.
The repair yard will utilise 150 acres of land for. The project estimate is around Rs 1500 cr.
Azhikkal, Vizhinjam and Poovar were in the probable list for building a second shipyard. The Kerala Government holds land in Azhikkal, but the CSL is preferring land near to a port, for easing movement of heavy machinery and cranes.
