Wednesday, October 19, 2011: Renowned novelist George Varghese
Kakkanadan, popularly known as Kakkanadan (76) has passed away at a
private hospital here on Wednesday.
Kakkanadan was under treatment for health related ailments for two
days, sources said. He is often credited with laying the foundation of
modernism in Malayalam literature. He is a recipient of Kendra Sahithya
Academy Award.
Born in Thiruvalla and later moved to Kottarakkara, Kakkanadan
started his professional career as a school teacher. He quit the job to
join Southern Railway as an officer and later shifted to Ministry of
Indian Railways. He went to Germany to pursue research in physics but
abandoned midway.
