Saudi Arabia may open consulate in Kerala

Wednesday, October 12, 2011: Saudi Arabia will consider opening its consulate in Kerala since the state sends the largest number of emigrants to the Gulf region, Saudi Ambassador to India Saghr Sulaiman Qureishi said here.
Qureishi during a meeting with Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy here last evening said Kerala’s state agency Norka-Roots would be given preference in recruiting workers required by Saudi Arabia, a release said.

He said Saudi Arabian Oil Company Aramco was interested in sourcing some of its requirements of goods from Kerala. In response, Kerala agreed to send a delegation to Saudi Arabia to discuss the matter, an official release said.
Besides the Chief Minister, Industries Minister P.K. Kunhalikutty, Minister for NoRKA K.C. Joseph, Minister for Excise and Ports K. Babu, Minister for Public Works V.K. Ebrahim Kunju, and Minister for Transport V.S. Sivakumar participated in the discussion.
