Speaker revokes LDF MLAs’ suspension

Tuesday, October 18, 2011: The speaker has revoked the suspension of TV Rajesh and James Mathew on Tuesday morning. This was intimated to all members by the Speaker.
The Opposition members had been holding a dharna inside the house ever since the suspension was announced on Monday.
Amidst the pandemonium in the house, the question hour and zero hour were suspended. Chief minister Oomen Chandy felt that amidst the uproar, the two sessions could not be held, and passed the ruling with a voice vote. When the house began its session in the morning, the members started their protest and following this both the sessions were suspended.
Speaker Karthikeyan read out the ruling by the former speaker Vijakumar in 2000 that a sit-in dharna cannot be held inside the House. The two suspended MLAs, who were holding a dharna from yesterday inside the house, were taken to the Opposition leader’s office after holding discussions with the Opposition leaders. And following this the speaker decided to wind up the session.
