In a report handed over to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, DGP informed
that the ACP had used his service revolver as per the rules. The
protest in Kozhikode had created a situation that warranted police
firing, the report said.
Radhakrishna Pillai opened fire on protesting SFI activists at
Kozhikode Govt. engineering college to bring the situation under
control. The police department has not initiated any kind of action
against the ACP in connection with the issue. The Kozhikode police
action on the SFI activists had triggered widespread protest in the
state.
The SFI activists were staging protest march to oust Nirmal Madhav,
who was given admission in the West Hill college breaching all norms.
Meanwhile Oommen Chandy today informed the Assembly that Additional
chief secretary K Jayakumar has been appointed to probe the incident.
The CPM led LDF opposition members on Wednesday demanded a judicial
probe into the incident and have also sought action against the police
officer.
