OCHIRA: Eight youths, who raped two girls for two days after tethering their hands and legs, were arrested by the Adoor police on Saturday. The victims were Kadambanadu natives and one among them was a Dalit girl.
They belonged to the ninth and tenth classes. Two accused are sons of siblings. The accused are Kannan, Santhosh, Ratheesh, Vishnu, Kannan, Aslam, Sharath and another youth, who are residents of Vallikkavu, Klappana, Karunagapally and Puthentheruvu.
The incident happened on December 3 and 4. One of the girls had an affair with Vishnu, who exploited the relationship to lure the girl and another girl to houses at Vallikavu. They were allegedly raped with their hands and legs tied up using their churidhar shawl.
The accused used mobile phone clippings to threaten the girls to bring another three girls also to the house. It was then that the incident came to light. The three girls informed the matter to the school authorities who in turn informed the incident to the child welfare committee of the school. The committee later called in the police for probing the incident.
Adoor CI K S Sabu is investigating the case. The police have filed a separate case against the rape involving the Dalit girl. The girl, who had been reluctant to go to her house, is currently lodged in Adoor Mahila Mandiram.
