KOCHI: Congress leader T N Prathapan MLA has written to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, requesting him not to issue licence to new beer-wine parlours in the State. He requested that the licences of the existing beer-wine parlours also be not renewed from the next year. The MLA wrote the letter after the Supreme Court upheld the liquor policy of the government.
“Necessary steps may be taken against Janata counters functioning in Five Star hotels and Club licences allowing VVIPs to consume liquor,” wrote Prathapan, who also gave suggestions to improve the competency of the Excise department.
“The five star hotels that supply liquor are 27 in number while there are 33 clubs. In the backdrop of the Supreme Court order, it is not right to renew the licences of clubs to serve liquor,” Prathapan pointed out in his letter.
