SIVAGIRI: Making an indirect reference to government’s liquor policy that saw shutting down of bars in Kerala, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said he was proud to have taken a decision on the lines of Sree Narayana Guru’s warning that liquor is poison. “It showed that we could conceive Guru’s teachings. The government will expand the research works on Guru’s teachings,” said Chandy, who was speaking at a function held in connection with Sivagiri pilgrimage.
The chief minister said the government’s policy to discourage liquor consumption by reducing the availability of the liquor in a phased manner has got the Supreme Court’s approval. “Everyone should support the government’s initiatives for the good of society. We should respect Guru’s teachings and at the same utilise his teachings for the benefit and progress of society,” Chandy added.
