Abhaya case probe: Church to sue CBI

KOTTAYAM: The Syro-Malabar Catholic Archeparchy of Kottayam (Knanaya) has said that the archdiocese will file a defamation case against the CBI for making a derogatory statement against Kottayam Bishop Mar Kuriakose Kunnassery in a case related to the Abhaya murder case. Further legal action will be taken after a discussion with legal experts. “A person called Sister Lousy was never in BCM College or in the Pius X hostel. Some print and visual media turned against the Church joining hands with the CBI’s fabricated statement regarding a concocted imaginary character. The CBI has been trying to defame the Church and its functionaries by giving false news in all the phases of the Abhaya case probe,” the statement said. The petition was filed by Sister Sephy against the CBI and the Central Government for defaming her by claiming that imaginary reports are under the consideration of the High Court.

Sister Sephy has already said that she is ready to prove her virginity. However, even though the committee appointed by the court has found that the compact disc on the narco-analysis test was bogus, someone from the CBI deliberately attempted to besmirch the Church by providing it to the media, it said. The Syro-Malabar Catholic Archeparchy of Kottayam (Knanaya) has also marked its vehement protest against the attempt to defame Bishop Kunnassery, who is widely respected by the public and the Knanaya community.
