Action won't be taken against me, says VS

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Striking an aggressive posture on the eve of the crucial Central Committee meeting of the CPI (M) where Kerala issues would figure, party veteran V S Achuthanandan on Friday discounted chances of action against him but asserted he was not going to yield if steps were taken against him under pressure from rivals.


"I don't think action would be taken against me (by the central leadership). You know, that I am not a person to yield if any action is taken," the 87-year-old leader asserted before leaving for New Delhi to attend the CC meeting.


Achuthanandan was responding to reporters' queries whether he thought the CC would clamp action on him under pressure from the rival faction led by state secretary and his bete noire Pinarayi Vijayan.


"I don't think something is going to happen as you (media) propagate. I don't think our committee is going to discuss these things", he said.


The Vijayan faction, known as "official leadership" in local political parlance, has charged Achuthanandan with violating organisational discipline by speaking openly against the state leadership.


Achuthanandan had mounted an attack on the state leadership under Vijayan in the wake of the murder of Marxist rebel and RMP leader T P Chandrasekharan on May 4. Several district and local-level party leaders have been arrested in connection with the case.


The senior leader, who was dropped from the party politburo a few years ago for raising the banner of revolt against his foes, had also written to the party centre seeking overhauling of the state leadership.
