CPI (M) workers demand probe into attacks

KANNUR:  Three CPI (M) workers-- P Prasanth, C Vinod and T K Arun-- who were injured in different attacks, and A M Bhargavi, the wife of CPI (M) martyr K Nanu, alleged that K Sudhakaran, MP, was behind the attacks committed during 1992-93. Addressing a press conference, they said in view of the series of disclosures made by Prasanth Babu, ex Congress worker and driver of Sudhakaran, before visual media on June 30 that the Congress leader was behind many violent incidents in the district, and also that he had conspired to kill E P Jayarajan, the cases should be reinvestigated. They said they had filed petitions in Kannur Town and City Police demanding a transparent and impartial reinvestigation in the attacks conducted by quotation gangs allegedly arranged by Sudhakaran, when he was DCC President. They claimed that the planned and target attacks were conducted with an aim of political revenge and alleged that the FIR of the cases were sabotaged by influencing the police. To a question, they said police should interrogate Prasanth Babu and also register a case against him.
