Suicide attempt fearing confiscation, daughter dies, mother serious

NEYYATINKARA: Fearing a confiscation threat, a woman and her daughter tried to attempt suicide. The daughter succumbed to injuries and her mother has been admitted in the hospital in a serious condition. The incident happened at Marayamuttom in Neyyattinkara. The incident happened when the bank authorities came to attach their property.

Lekha (40) and her daughter Vaishnavi (19) tried to commit suicide by setting them ablaze. Vaishnavi died and Lekha has been admitted in the medical college hospital with 90% burns.

Lekha’s husband said they had taken a loan of Rs 5 lakh from the Neyyatinkara branch of the Canara bank to build a house. They had repaid Rs 8 lakh and had to pay Rs 4 lakh again. The two were in severe mental stress in the name of it.

Lekha’s husband is a carpenter. They were an economically backward family. Though they tried to sell the house and repay the money, it was find any result. They had received a call from the bank hinting of attaching the property today.
