Sunday 02 October 2011: Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi was
today fondly remembered on his 142nd birth anniversary with leaders
cutting across political lines paying homage to him.
The Gandhi Jayanti celebrations took off with a prayer meeting led by
singer K.J. Yesudas at Gandhi Park here early on Sunday morning.
Freedom fighter and veteran Gandhian KE Maman was felicitated during the
function by Yesudas.
The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) also observed Gandhi Jayanti by organising padayatras, honouring freedom fighters and holding commemorative meetings.
The functions were organised under the auspices of the respective District Congress Committees and Mandalam Congress Committees.
