Wednesday, October 05, 2011: The Kerala High Court admitted a
petition seeking a direction to the Centre to roll back the deregulation
of petroleum product prices and impose control so that the prices were
not increased arbitrarily.
Admitting the petition by former MP P C Thomas, a Division Bench
comprising justices C N Ramachandran Nair and T S Gopinathan issued
notice to the Central government, Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) and
Reliance Industries.According to Thomas, the government had concealed
the fact that India was producing petroleum products exceeding 30 per
cent of actual need and exporting the excess.
He further alleged that the domestic refineries can supply petroleum
products to meet the requirements of the country. The case will be
considered after two weeks.
