Jeddah: The first hajj group from India
reached Saudi Arabia
on Thursday and was given a warm reception by the Indian Hajj authorities and
NRIs from various states. 3153 pilgrims sent by the Central Hajj Committee
reached Mecca.
2653 pilgrims, including 601 Malayalees, alighted at Medina and 500 pilgrims at Jeddah. The first
group reached at 1.45 pm and was welcomed by the Indian Hajj counsel Fayis
Ahmed Kidwai, Hajj mission in-charge Sukoor Pulikkal and Airport in-charge
Nadirshah Kasargod along with Saudi officials.
Mavoor Madathil Mohammed from Kozhikode was the first male hajji to come out of the airport after the proceedings and Khadeeja wife of Ahammed Kutty from Edavannapapra, Malappuram, was the first female. The accommodation is being arranged at Al Shurfa plaza of Al Ansar group near Haram Sheriff masjid in Medina. Majority of the pilgrims went to visit the tomb of the Prophet Mohammed the night itself. Apart from Karipur, flights from Delhi, Lucknow, Varanasi and Jaipur also reached Saudi on Thursday.
