Hotels not to increase food price soon
Here is a breather for those who are tired of the price hike of essential commodities. The Kerala Hotel and Restaurants Association (KHRA) has decided not to hike the price of food items in a hurry following the recent price hike. They have decided to wait further to see whether the prices of commodities would come down.
It is a much relieving decision for the lakhs of people who are depending on hotel food in the state. KHRA thinks that the price hike of hotel food would give an extra burden to the already exhausted common people. So they have decided to study the market before taking the final decision.
“Price hike of commodities has severely affected our business. But it is a common phenomenon. It might come down a little later. Until then, we have decided not to cause any burden to the public by increasing the price of food,”
Moideenkutty Haji, State Treasurer of KHRA, said. The price of rice has increased by `10 per kilogram in the recent days. The price of cooking gas has also increased.a
All these have put the hotel owners in financial crisis. Some of them have increased the price of food slightly after the Ramadan break. But they say it is difficult to run business in such a situation.
“The rice we use here now costs `36. Earlier, it was only `26. But we cannot increase the price of food proportionately,” a hotel owner said.
KHRA also fear an increase in vegetable price as an impact of the hike in diesel price. They will be forced t oreconsider their stand if the price hike continues like this.
