HC asks Adnan Sami to hand over his passport to police

MUMBAI:  In more trouble for Pakistani singer Adnan Sami, the Bombay High Court has directed him to hand over his passport to the Mumbai police while they probe the harassment case filed against him by his ex-wife Sabah Galadari.

Hearing Sabah's plea, Justice R P Sondurbaldota yesterday ordered Mr Sami to give his passport to the investigating officer immediately.

Sabah pleaded that Mr Sami was not complying with the May 2009 order of the high court granting him anticipatory bail in the same case.

The high court had asked Sami to furnish two sureties which he did. However, in July this year both sureties told the court they wanted to withdraw and this was allowed.

As there is no one to stand surety for Sami now, there was violation of the 2009 order, Ms Sabah's lawyers Mahesh Jethmalani and Edith Dey pleaded.

Mr Sami's representative told the high court that the singer could not appear as he was unwell.

The singer-cum-musician had recently sought permission of the high court to go abroad to perform shows. The court asked him to give details of the shows, which he has yet to submit. The matter is pending and will be heard on December 23.

The high court, on December 16, had asked Mr Sami to vacate the five-in-one duplex flats in Oberoi Sky Garden at Lokhandwala Complex in upscale Andheri within 2 months to facilitate the entry of Ms Sabah who claimed it was her matrimonial home.

Mr Sami is currently staying with his third wife Roya Faribi in the flat.
