KOTTAYAM: Governor has sent show cause notice to MG University vice-chancellor Dr A V George, seeking his explanation on why he should not be removed from the post. The action comes following allegations that he tampered with the bio-data he had submitted during his appointment.
The governor, who is also the chancellor of the university, had also asked government to conduct an inquiry based on the allegations and submit a report.
Following this an inquiry was conducted by Chief Secretary and a report was submitted. The report had endorsed the allegations. In a petition filed in the high court questioning the VC’s appointment the governor had also been made an opposite party.
In the bio-data given for VC’s post, George allegedly had included qualification which he actually didn’t posses. Later it was corrected. Many who were eyeing for the post had got flustered by George’s appointment.
Meanwhile, George after becoming the VC is known to have locked horns with the government. Though he came as a nominee of Kerala Congress, the party ditched him later due to certain issues. When a group in the Congress and the varsity Congress union came out against Geroge, he found himself in a difficult position. The government also started turning against him as he took some disciplinary action against Registrar M R Unni.
