THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Those who are corrupt should be shot dead as is the practice in China, State Chief Information Commissioner Siby Mathews has said. “The government has no plans to punish the corrupt,” he said during the Golden Jubilee celebrations of vigilance department here on Thursday.
“Vigilance department is like a caged parrot. For the past 50 years the department has not go a free-hand in dealing with cases. If it is given the full authority over its rights, it will stop to exist like a caged parrot,” Mathews said.
“The follow-up of cases related to corruption is being prolonged indefinitely. There have been huge backlog of such cases in courts, which has helped many politicians. The government expresses no strong will to take action against the corrupt and the Vigilance department has been functioning according to the whims and fancies of politicians,” he added.
