THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government Monday decided to implement the Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode Light Metro Projects entirely in the public sector. The decision was taken after rejecting finance department’s directive to implement it in private participation. An agreement was reached between the state government and the DMRC to hand over the project to them and the charge to chief advisor E Sreedharan.
Sreedharan, who met the chief minister this morning made it clear that he would withdraw from the project if it is not implemented in the public sector.
Talking to the media after holding talks with Sreedharan, the chief minister said all problems in connection with the execution of the Light Metro Project have been solved and the next cabinet will take a decision in giving the project to DMRC.
Other things of the project will be decided after discussions with Sreedharan. Loan from JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) would be obtained only if the project is implemented in public sector. The cabinet also has to agree to the loan conditions. The state government will bear the expense of 20% of the project and the remaining 80% by the center. 80% of the project’s expense exempting price of land and tax would be obtained as loan.
