VALAAD: The only woman member in Chief Minister Oommen Chandy’s cabinet, P K Jayalakshmi, got married today. At the wedding ceremony held at the Nalukettu of Valadu Tharavad, her traditional family house, Anil Kumar, her relative and groom by custom, tied the nuptial knot at 9:35 in the morning.
The wedding ceremony was conducted as per Adivasi clan tradition. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan, ministers, speaker N Shakthan, M Ps, MLAs, top officials, and eminent persons from socio-political and cultural scenes attended the ceremony.
Before getting on the wedding altar, Jayalakshmi touched the feet of Oommen Chandy and Achuthanandan to seek their blessings. After that at the auspicious moment at 9:35 am, Anil tied the nuptial knot.
Due to space constriction at the wedding venue, VIPs sat at a podium arranged outside the Nalukettu and equipped with TV facilities. In the wake of Maoist threat, a huge platoon of police including Thunderbolt, led by District Police Chief Ajitha Beegum stay put in front of the minister’s house.
The wedding-related rituals were conducted by Srejesh Namboothiri, the priest of Valliyoorkkavu Devi temple. The heads of about eight clans under the Tharavadu reached the house and performed traditional rituals to propitiate clan gods. Pazhayidam Mohanan, who had arranged ‘sadhyas’ for several youth festivals, was in charge of the wedding feast preparation.
