THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A team led by district collector Biju Prabhakar Saturday started demolishing the illegal constructions after encroaching the drain at the Pazhavangadi area as part of preventing flooding in the capital city. The measures started at 5 am this morning.
The demolition at the Pazhavangadi area is part of the measures taken by a team led by chief secretary Jiji Thomson to solve the flooding at East Fort and Thampanoor. The team led by the chief secretary has aimed to implement the action plan within a month to avoid flooding. As part of that, the chief secretary and principal secretary K Suresh Kumar visited the flooding areas two days back.
Shops, bunks and illegal constructions established after encroaching Thekkanikkara canal where the water flows were demolished. . No major protests were seen from the side of the traders. The demolition procedures were led by officials in three teams presided over by the collector, ADM and the sub collector. A large police team were also there to help them.
