Stalin arrested following protest

Monday, August 01, 2011: DMK leader M K Stalin was today arrested along with scores of supporters as he led state-wide demonstrations against the “foisting” of land grabbing cases on partymen by the ruling AIADMK.
Stalin, former Deputy Chief Minister and son of DMK president M Karunanidhi, was arrested here for staging protest in defiance of prohibitory orders, police said.

The DMK Treasurer alleged “political vendetta” on part of the AIADMK government for the land grab cases filed against his partymen.
Protests were also held across the state with partymen taking to streets to register their anger.
With the Jayalalithaa government ordering a crackdown on land grabbing, DMK men have been facing the heat with several of its local party functionaries coming under the police net.
AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa had promised voters during the Assembly polls that she would take action against land grabbing during the DMK rule.
A special cell has been formed by the police to exclusively deal with land grabbing cases. DMK senior leader Veerapandi S Arumugam, Chepauk constituency MLA J Anbazhagan and close aides of Union Minister M K Alagiri, are all in prison.
M Karunanidhi has been insisting that the Jayalalithaa-led government had unleashed “vendetta politics,” against DMK.
More than 5,000 DMK workers including former minister M Palachisamy and M P Saminathan were held at Coimbatore, Tiruvallur, Tiruppur and Cuddalore.
