Three railway employees held for robbing woman traveller

Alappuzha: Railway police on Thursday held three railway employees for robbing a bag containing mobile phones, ATM cards, camera, money and Ipod from a woman passenger. The arrested were Rajan, 40 from Krunagapally, Jino, 26 from Kottarakkara and Unnikrishnan, 29 from Ernakulam. They are all sweepers and porters at the Alappuzha railway station.

The bag of Asha Kiran, an employee of Techno Park, who was traveling from Goa to Thiruvananthapuram, was robbed when she was traveling in the Nizamudhin Express on August 16. Her bag contained two mobile phones, five ATM cards, Ipod, cameras, chargers, etc. Except camera, all other things were taken back from them. She was traveling in coach B-4. When the train reached Alappuzha station by 6.30 am, one of the accused got inside the train and flung the bag out of the train. Two others who were standing outside took the bag. The woman was sleeping at that time. Later she filed a complaint with the Thiruvananthapuram railway SP Rajan John.


The accused were held in the probe conducted by a team led by Ernakulam railway DySP J Prasad.
