Women’s commission to probe nun’s death in T’puram

, Saturday, August 20, 2011: The State Women’s Commission will conduct an investigation into the mysterious death of a middle-aged nun (Mary Ancy) who was found dead in the water tank of the convent where she lived at Poonkulam near Kovalam on Wednesday.
Women’s commission chairperson Justice D Sreedevi and the panel investigating officers will visit the spot and collect evidence. The police team investigating the mysterious death of Sister Mary Ancy interrogated her family members in Tiruvalla in connection with the case. The probe team also found out that the nun was deeply depressed owing to an allergic skin disease.
Police said that based on the initial forensic report and post-mortem report, the police team had reached the conclusion that it was a case of suicide.

The police also ruled out any foul play by saying that if she was pushed into the small underground water tank than there could have been injuries on her body. The initial forensic report also ruled out that anyone else could have been involved in the death. There are no circumstantial evidences to prove that it is case of murder. These all points clearly that she ended her life.
Almost 50 people have been questioned so far in connection with the incident.
Investigators said the 48-year-old nun was under treatment for an allergic skin ailment. The doctor had also prescribed her drugs to improve her appetite, reduce tension and induce sleep.
Meanwhile human rights activist Jomon Puthenpurackal and family members of Ancy have raised suspicion over her mysterious death and have demanded a detailed probe into the case.
The body was found in the water pit by the sisters this morning. The nun went missing from her room where she had gone to sleep last night after prayers.
